OREA staff and volunteers work to promote a legislative and regulatory environment at Queen's Park that is favourable to REALTORS® and real estate.
OREA, along with its 52,000 REALTOR® members, has achieved some notable successes at Queen's Park recently.
For example, OREA launched the "Home Ownership Matters" campaign during the lead up to the 2011 Ontario election. The campaign was a success, producing significant media attention and discussion on home ownership friendly policies.
OREA also launched two Calls for Action on the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) and mandatory home energy audits that generated more than 50,000 emails to MPPs at Queen's Park.
OREA initiated a successful advocacy campaign that resulted in an amendment to the Green Energy Act allowing buyers to waive the mandatory home energy audits at the time of sale.
REALTORS® play a key role in the association's lobbying efforts through participation in Calls For Action, serving on member board political action committees, and attending OREA's annual Political Affairs Conference.
