Getting To Know The
College
The OREA Real Estate College Program Standards were developed to act as a policy guideline to support OREA
objectives, and are subject to change. It is important to understand that:
- The College reserves all rights to make changes to standards and policies at any time without notice.
This can include, but is not exclusive to: determining the applicability of standards and policies in
relation to an individual; revising the location, availability and/ or timing of courses and examinations;
and, revising program requirements and fees at any time.
- The College reserves all rights to make final interpretations of all standards and policies relating to
the OREA Real Estate College Student Handbook, College curriculum materials and notices. Areas of academic
dishonesty such as plagiarism, cheating, impersonation, and coaching another student during the examination
will not be tolerated. Any violation of the examination rules will result, at the very minimum, in a
student’s disqualification from the examination and potentially from the College courses and examinations for
a minimum period of one year. A procedure is in place to give students the opportunity to appeal discipline
decisions resulting from alleged cheating. No appeal is available for discipline imposed as a result of
breaches of examination procedures. Examples would include the use of electronic devices such as hand held
computers, cellular telephones, dictionaries, translators, personal data assistants, pagers, headsets, remote
communications or photographic devices, electronic organizers which permit the saving of text, textbooks,
reference manuals, encyclopedias, workbooks or loose leaf papers of any kind. The Discipline and Appeal
process is documented and is available from the College.

Accommodating a Special
Need

completing a course or taking examinations under standard conditions may request special accommodations and
arrangements. Any such request will be considered on a case-by-case basis, with a view to providing equal
opportunity for performance and to meet the student’s disability-related needs. Students requesting
accommodation on the basis of disability will be required to have their regulated health professional
complete the Student Request For Accommodation of a Special Need Form. The form must be completed at the time
of enrolment in a course and must be submitted promptly to the Assistant Director—Registration Education,
OREA Real Estate College, 99 Duncan Mill Road, Don Mills, Ontario, M3B 1Z2.
The form is available on this website under Become a Real Estate Professional–Things You
Need to Know. Students may also contact the College at (416) 391-6732 or (866) 411-6732 and a copy of the
form will be forwarded by fax or e-mail.
All information provided will be kept confidential and used only for the purpose of

of the classroom hours will not be permitted to write the examination and will be required to repeat the
course.
- Other: The College recognizes that there are many religious holidays. If there is a conflict between a

Missed Examination/Missed Classroom Time/Inability to Complete Course Due to
Illness
A student who fails to attend an examination because of personal health reasons may make a request to the
OREA Real Estate College to be given an opportunity to write a makeup examination. The student’s request must
be submitted in writing to the OREA Real Estate College along with the required medical documentation in
support of the request.
A student who fails to attend at least 70% of scheduled classroom hours because of personal
health reasons may make a request to the OREA Real Estate College to be given an opportunity to make up the
missed classroom hours in a later class in order that the student may then be eligible to write the
examination for the applicable course. The student’s request must be submitted in writing to the OREA Real
Estate College along with the required medical documentation in support of the request (see below).
A student who is unable to complete Phases 1, 2 and 3 within the 18 month-timeline because
of personal health reasons may make a request to the OREA Real Estate College to be given an opportunity to
challenge the examination(s) for course(s) successfully completed (Phase 1 and/or Phase 2). The student’s
request must be submitted in writing to the OREA Real Estate College along with the required medical
documentation in support of the request (see below). Requests must be submitted following the 18-month expiry
date and will be considered at that time. Where the student is granted the opportunity to challenge the
examination(s), the challenge examination(s) must be written within three months of the 18-month expiry
date.
Requests must be submitted in writing along with the required documentation to the
Assistant Director – Registration Education, OREA Real Estate College, 99 Duncan Mill Road, Don Mills,
Ontario, M3B 1Z2.
The required medical documentation is set out in the OREA Real Estate College Student
Medical Certificate form which is available on this website under Becoming a Real Estate Professional–Things
You Need to Know. If you are unable to view or print the Student Medical Certificate, please visit or send
someone on your behalf to the OREA Real Estate College to pick one up or contact the OREA Real Estate College

be in the form of the OREA Real Estate College Student Medical Certificate or an original physician’s letter
prepared on the physician’s letterhead. If a physician’s letter is provided, it must include the information
that is required in the OREA Real Estate College Student Medical Certificate. The student is responsible for
ensuring that the required information is contained in the letter supplied by the physician. An OREA Real
Estate College Student Medical Certificate or physician’s letter that simply says “I saw the student on such
date” will not be accepted.
The original OREA Real Estate College Student Medical Certificate or original physician’s
letter must be submitted promptly to the OREA Real Estate College. A fax copy of the original OREA Real
Estate College Student Medical Certificate or original physician’s letter may be accepted in advance, but not

directly to the OREA Real Estate College. A Student Medical Certificate or physician’s letter that is faxed
by the student to the OREA Real Estate College will not be accepted. The student may instruct the physician’s
office to fax the Student Medical Certificate or letter directly to the OREA Real Estate College at the

duration and consist of essay-style questions similar to workbook exercises and assignments.
Examinations for self-directed students take place at College Examination Centres (see
below). Examinations for classroom students take place on the last scheduled day of instruction. A student
who does not write the scheduled examination will be given a grade of “0” and the course transcript will
reflect “fail”. Students who do not write the scheduled examination or students who do not pass this exam
will be given one final opportunity to write the examination.
Examination Room
Entry into an examination room is permitted upon inspection of the student’s current and valid photo
identification and confirmation of the student’s name on the examination roster by the test administrator.
Entry into an examination room constitutes the start of the examination.
Examination Room—Video Surveillance
For test administration purposes, a closed circuit camera/video recording will be in operation only during
the time of an exam. Students are advised of examination room monitoring by way of video surveillance notices
which are posted in designated classroom/examination rooms. Please direct questions or concerns about the
privacy compliance practices of the OREA Real Estate College to privacy@orea.com.
OREA Real Estate College Examinations

items listed above, if brought into the examination room constitutes a breach of examination protocol.
In the event such prohibited items are found by the invigilator, he/she is authorized to
remove such items. Students who choose not to write the examination in these circumstances will be awarded a

dependent upon the nature of the breach of examination procedures.
Students who fail to observe College Program Standards and are found in violation of

courses and examinations. No appeal is available for discipline imposed as a result of breaches of
examination procedures which have been identified in the Student Handbook and on this website.

course.
- It takes approximately three weeks to process a transcript.
- Transcripts are posted online and will be accessible by the student through their My Portfolio

instructor. The instructor will provide an overview of curriculum which requires further study, discuss the
problem areas and indicate specific course material which must be reviewed to succeed in identified topics.
Please be advised that during the exam review session, students will not be provided access to specific
examination questions/solutions.
Rush Marking
