You have:

  • a solid reputation in the real estate profession (or allied fields);
  • an exemplary record in the field; 
  • an interest in teaching adults.

You'll need

  • to successfully complete a prerequisite examination(s) for the course(s) you plan to teach.
  • five years experience as a Registrant in real estate with the Real Estate Council of Ontario to be an instructor of the Real Estate as a Professional Career program.
  • five years experience in your professional discipline(s) to be a Certificate Course Instructor.
  • to be a practising lawyer in the province of Ontario if you apply to teach Real Property Law
  • to be a holder of professional designations and/or hold membership in other organizations to teach Principles of Appraisal and Property Management programs.

As an instructor, you will:

  • Support the objectives of the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) and the Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA) in providing consumer protection through quality education provided by the OREA Real Estate College.
  • Represent RECO and OREA Real Estate College in promoting professional standards in business practices and ethical behaviour.
  • Agree to accept and abide by both the letter and the spirit of the OREA Real Estate College Instructors' Code of Conduct, and to meet your obligations under the Code with integrity and diligence.
  • Apply your experience in delivery methods and practices, knowledge of curriculum, instructional competence and classroom management.
  • Stay current with respect to the laws and economic trends affecting your specialty.
  • Remain current by attending courses/seminars offered through OREA Real Estate College, your community college or other institutions.
  • Maintain your status as an active, practising, experienced professional to comply with OREA Real Estate College standards and criteria.

  • Real Estate as a Professional Career - Phase 2 and Phase 3 programs (you must be a registered real estate practitioner in the Province of Ontario). Read about the Registration Education instructor application process.

  • The Certificate and Brokerage programs - Real Property Law, Principles of Appraisal, Principles of Mortgage Financing, Property Management, to name a few. You need not necessarily be registered as a real estate salesperson or broker with the Real Estate Council of Ontario in order to teach some courses. OREA Real Estate College will:

  • Review your application for the basic prerequisites, as well as the scope of your experience and your geographic location (relative to the demand for courses in that market).
  • Interview you.
  • Assess your qualifications following the interview, and, if approved, require that you write the examination(s) and achieve a mark of not less than 85%.
  • Invite you to audit the course(s) that you will be teaching. The auditing process involves attending the class and actively participating in the facilitation of the course on a daily basis.
  • Provide teaching assignments when demand warrants.
