Apply to win leadership award

If you’re new to real estate, involved in organized real estate or dedicated to community work, you can apply to win a prestigious award that helps you hone your leadership skills.

Apply to win leadership awardIf you are new to the real estate profession, involved in organized real estate, and dedicated to charity or community work, you can apply to win an award that helps you hone your leadership skills.

Five REALTORS® will be recognized for their commitment to professional development and charitable initiatives and for their involvement in organized real estate.

Regardless of your age, you can apply to win one of five Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA) YPN Leadership Awards if you have been involved with the profession for fewer than 10 years. Otherwise, if you are under the age of 40, you can also apply, no matter what length of time you have worked in real estate.

“These awards were designed to foster and recognize excellence in our field,” says Steve Kotan, a REALTOR® from North Bay and the chair of the OREA YPN committee. “In this way, we are supporting the emerging leaders in real estate who make an impact on our industry and in their local communities. This is a positive thing for our profession and for the future.”

They have shared their personal success stories and give insights into how they approach their real estate career. The 2017 winners will also be highlighted on YouTube, the blog and in The REALTOR® EDGE newsletter.

"These awards were designed to foster and recognize excellence in our field."

“Winning this award opened a lot of doors for me that I didn’t expect,” said Lindsay Reid of London, Ont., a 2016 YPN award winner. “Many agents whom I did not know beforehand contacted me, including people from other towns and cities. It was terrific to connect with so many other REALTORS® and to share ideas and learn about what the kinds of things they are doing in their marketplaces.

“It was also great exposure for me and good news that I could share with my clients,” said Reid. “I encourage others to apply for this award because it is great professional development for us as REALTORS® but it’s also good for our industry to shine a spotlight on all of the positive contributions that we in real estate make to charities and to our local communities.”

Reid has served for two years as a director on her local board and recently launched her own non-profit organization to encourage real estate professionals and others to volunteer in their communities. Learn more about the awards, how to obtain the application form and award criteria.

The awards will be presented to the five individuals who best meet the criteria. Winners will be announced at the end of February at OREA’s annual conference. The deadline to apply is January 18, 2017.

The OREA YPN is a forward-thinking community of REALTORS® enhancing the future of real estate. It is a member-driven organization that helps REALTORS® to excel by giving them the tools and encouragement to become involved in four core areas: associations, the real estate industry, peers and community. The YPN provides a vital link between emerging real estate leaders and the broader REALTOR® community, including industry associations, volunteers and members who work together to strengthen the real estate profession and promote its value to the public. To learn more about the awards or to obtain the application form and award criteria, visit www.orea.com and click on “About” and then on “YPN”.
