Salesperson program admissions have closed – What this means for you

Information on becoming a real estate salesperson in Ontario

As of May 1, 2019, OREA Real Estate College closed admissions and ceased accepting new applicants for The Salesperson Registration Education Program.
The college will continue to deliver the Program for all currently enrolled students.

If you are not currently enrolled in a course, and you are interested in becoming a real estate salesperson you may contact the new education provider. Further information on the new real estate education program can be found on this site hosted by the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO).

An FAQ on the effects of the ongoing changes

Admissions has closed for OREA’s training program for aspiring salespeople. A new Real Estate Salesperson Program has been announced by Ontario’s industry regulator, the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO). Further details can be found on this website.

OREA will accept entrants to The Broker Registration Education Program until May 29, 2020.

To be eligible for this program, applicants must have first completed the courses in The Salesperson Registration Education Program.

If you have recently completed pre-registration courses or have been registered as a salesperson or broker in a qualifying province, you may be eligible for the Interprovincial Challenge Examination.

Complete eligibility requirements can be found on the Real Estate Council of Ontario’s website.

If you are eligible, contact the college to create an account and schedule your examination.

Upon successful completion of this examination, you must then submit an application for registration to RECO.

You must complete this exam by the deadline date of November 28, 2020.

If your previous work or education provides you with real estate-related knowledge, you may choose to pursue an educational equivalency assessment with the Registrar at the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO).

This assessment may grant you course credits or examination challenges for any course in the Salesperson Registration Education Program or the Broker Registration Education Program.

You can find the application form and complete details on the RECO website.

You are permitted two exam attempts for each course in the program. Should you fail both attempts for the first course, Real Estate as a Professional Career, you will not be permitted to continue in the program with OREA. You may visit RECO’s website for information on starting their new education program.

If you successfully complete the first course but fail both exam attempts for a subsequent course, you must re-enrol in that course to continue in the program. Please note that all courses and exams must be successfully completed by November 28, 2020.

Please contact our customer services department. You can discuss your situation with a support representative.

1-866-411-6732 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)

If you have already started your training at the OREA Real Estate College, then you must complete all your courses and examinations with OREA. The current program will run until November 28, 2020. If you have previously taken courses and are wondering if they are still valid, you can speak with our customer services department or apply to RECO to have your prior learning assessed through the Educational Equivalency Assessment process. Please contact RECO for information when you are ready to resume the program.

A PDF of the course textbook is available for every course in the program. Once you enrol in a course you can access the PDF file in your My Portfolio account, under Course Resources. The correspondence method of delivery is not offered for all courses.
