Our vision: Helping Ontario REALTORS® succeed in building stronger communities.
Our mission: To support Ontario REALTORS® in helping people find a great place to call home, work and thrive.
There are nearly 100,000 REALTOR® Members who take up this mission for Ontarians every day.
Ontario REALTORS® use their skills, experience, knowledge, drive and determination, along with the latest technology, to help people achieve the Canadian dream of home ownership.
As one of Canada’s largest professional associations, we are Ontario’s strongest advocate for home and property ownership, property rights, and prosperous communities.
Home buyers and sellers rely on the knowledge and expertise Ontario REALTORS® bring to the table in every real estate transaction.
Ontario REALTORS® stay up-to-date on developments in real estate. They help home buyers make an informed decision by providing comparative market data, housing market conditions and neighbourhood trends.
Our Members are in the business of building strong communities – not just selling homes.
Ontario REALTORS® are involved in their communities and are committed to quality schools and parks, safe neighbourhoods, a strong economy and opportunities for the people who live there.
OREA fights to protect the value of your greatest asset – your home
All Ontarians should have the opportunity to achieve the Canadian Dream to own a home. OREA is committed to working with government to make home ownership more affordable for Ontarians.
Ontario REALTORS® support:
OREA has grown from the small group in the 1920s to an association of nearly 100,000 members and 23 real estate boards.

Milestones through the decades:
1920s – OAREB is founded to bring province-wide standards to an unregulated, emerging profession.
1930s – The new Real Estate and Business Brokers Act requires salespeople and brokers to obtain a license simply by registering their name.
1940s – The Canadian Association of Real Estate Boards is established. The issue of rent control, seen as curtailing housing for those engaged in wartime efforts, was on OAREB’s agenda.
1950s – OAREB makes education courses available and basic examinations for registration become law.
1960s – To become a member of any of Ontario’s 42 real estate boards, prospective salespeople must attend 16 lectures and pass a 2½ hour examination. Mandatory education is established.
1970s – OAREB’s mandatory registration education program is extended to include 150 hours of course study. OAREB becomes OREA.
1980s – Mandatory articling is introduced and members are required to complete continuing education within the first two years after registration. OREA begins lobbying for self-regulation.
1990s – OREA publishes a universal agreement of purchase and sale. Written agency disclosure that specifies the persons for whom the salesperson or broker is working is included in the REALTOR® Code of Ethics. OREA and the provincial government sign an historic agreement granting the profession the right to self-management.
2000s – Mandatory continuing education for salespeople and brokers becomes law. Landmark changes are made to the REBBA for the first time in 50 years. Revisions include tougher consumer protection regulations that promise to elevate respect for the real estate profession.
2010s – OREA pushes for amendments to legislation that would require home sellers to provide buyers with home energy audits, secures an exemption for real estate brokers from having to take mortgage brokerage educations courses, and successfully lobbies for better protection of property owners from mining claims.

Moving into 2024 and beyond, OREA has developed a value-driven, Member-focused strategic plan. This plan was developed in consultation with Members, Member Boards, stakeholders, and industry leaders. It sets out a roadmap for the next five years of success.
Our strategic plan is a guiding force, helping fulfill our mission of supporting Ontario REALTORS® in helping people find a great place to call home, work and thrive.
We spoke with nearly 100 leaders, conducting in-depth interviews and regional roundtables to uncover your preferences, thoughts, and suggestions for strategic direction for our roadmap.
The strategic plan is focused on our core successes:
With nearly 100,000 Members across the province, OREA recognizes the important role we play in supporting our Members to make the dream of home ownership a reality. This strategic plan is focused on providing meaningful value to our Member Boards and Members to better adapt to an evolving market environment, and equip them with the tools, support and education needed to drive success.
We will be looking to enhance products and services like our Standard Forms, remain focused on our advocacy and government relations outreach efforts, and deliver cutting-edge REALTOR®-focused events. We will also be building on our educational programs and resources, giving learners governance and strategic planning experience, and encouraging greater diversity and transparency in the Board and committee recruitment process.
Thank you to all Member Boards, Leaders, and Ontario REALTORS® who participated in the consultation process. For further information on how we will achieve this, view OREA's Strategic Plan.
At OREA, staff feel a deep sense of pride working for Canada’s largest provincial real estate professional association. Our five guiding principles reflect everything we do as an organization and as a member of the OREA team. They reflect our culture and create a sense of belonging. They inform our behaviour, thinking, and actions to enable a high-performance culture focused on delivering results for our Members and the communities we serve. Here are OREA’s five guiding principles:
Put Ourselves in Members’ Shoes.Understanding our Members is at the core of everything we do. We work hard to build relationships, and make decisions based on what will provide Members the most value so that we can build better communities together.
Do the Right Thing. We choose the most ethical path, even when more difficult.
Outperform Yesterday. We constantly strive to be two steps ahead of our ever-changing environment by staying curious, daring to try new things, and boldly asking what’s next.
Engage, Empower, and Support Each Other. We have each other’s backs because great teams rely on each other to get the job done. We speak a common language of mutual respect, and believe we are stronger when working towards a shared mission together.
Make Space for All Perspectives. We are constantly working towards a vision of acceptance that allows people to feel respected, engaged, and to be themselves. We value diversity of thought and are confident that the best solutions are formed after the consideration of all possibilities.
