CMHC Price Ceiling Eliminated

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) has announced that effective September 22 2003

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) has announced that effective September 22 2003, the price ceiling limitation for all homeowner mortgage loans insured by CMHC will be eliminated.

The current price or mortgage ceiling was set in 1992, when CMHC introduced mortgage insurance with a down payment requirement of 5 per cent. Maximum house price ceilings were included as a condition of what was then a pilot program.
