The short, dark days at this time of year provide an opportunity to turn your attention to household safety. The Insurance Bureau of Canada suggests things to do around the house between the end of daylight savings time and the winter solstice. They are: Test and maintain your smoke detectors; check your carbon monoxide detectors; review your family’s emergency plan; update your emergency kit; check your first-aid kit and replace missing supplies; get your fuel-burning appliances inspected by a professional; check your chimney and vents; check your car’s tire pressure and fluid levels and ensure all lights and signals are working; update your home inventory; review your insurance policy.
