Monthly housing starts in Canada totalled 182,754 units compared to 188,369 a month earlier, according to a news release from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. The trend is a six-month moving average of the monthly seasonally adjusted annual rates of housing starts, reported on May 8. “As expected, the trend in total housing starts continued to moderate in April,” said Mathieu Laberge, CMHC’s deputy chief economist. “As a result, it drew closer to its historical average and is in line with estimates of household formation.” Read the report.
