With the warmer weather now upon us, the Ontario REALTORS CARE® Foundation is gearing up for a good cause.

The Motorcycle Ride for Charity, organized by the foundation, will take place on Wednesday, July 5 to raise money for shelter-based charities across the province.

This year marks the 12th annual ride, taking place during the foundation’s 40th anniversary year. This year’s destination is Sarnia. Riders will depart from the REALTORS® Association of Hamilton-Burlington. Along the way, they will stop at the Brantford Regional Real Estate Association Inc., the Kitchener-Waterloo Association of REALTORS®, the REALTORS® Association of Grey Bruce Owen Sound, the Huron Perth Association of REALTORS®; and the Sarnia-Lambton Real Estate Board. The final stop is the Harbourfront Inn in Sarnia.

“The ride is hugely important in raising the visibility of the foundation and the good work it does,” says Elizabeth Wale, president of the foundation. “We have a really dedicated group of riders, many of whom are repeat riders over several years. The ride draws attention in the towns it passes through and raises money for many charities. If you can participate in the ride, that’s great. If not, come out and join us at one of the stops or sponsor a rider, because the more sponsorships we get, the more money we will raise for charity.”

The ride has taken place every summer since 2006, and last year’s ride raised $20,000 as one of the foundation’s most high-profile fundraisers. Last year, the foundation gave out more than $1 million to charity for the first time. Organizers want to continue this trend, demonstrating REALTOR® generosity in a way that helps the needy across Ontario.

The funds raised go back into communities all over the province, adds Wale. “Housing is a basic need, and the foundation supports people in need of shelter across Ontario. This is a truly worthy cause and we are grateful for any support we receive.”

Shelters and shelter-based charities are the focus of the foundation’s efforts. Some recipient charities are: Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers and Big Sisters organizations across Ontario, Collingwood Crisis Centre, YWCA Sudbury, Covenant House Toronto, Couchiching Jubilee House, Domestic Abuse Services Oxford, Community Living Mississauga, the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Ottawa and the Regional Hospice of Quinte. These are just a few of the charities across Ontario that benefit from the efforts of Realtors.
